Old-Fashioned Bread Stuffing

  • 1 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 8 cups bread cubes, dry
  • 1 cup chicken broth

In a small saucepan cook celery and onion in margarine till tender but not brown; remove from heat.  Stir in sage, pepper and salt.
Place dry bread cubes in a bowl.  Add onion mixture.  Drizzle with enough broth to moisten, tossing lightly.  Use to stuff one 8- to 10- pound turkey.

8 cups of bread cubes is approximately 16 slices of bread. To dry the cubes, place them in a baking pan and bake at 300F for 10-15 minutes, stirring twice.
